RUSTON, La. (AP) -- It was a milestone Leon Barmore was happy to achieve, and happy to put behind him -- his 500th victory as a head coach.

Barmore became the 15th women's college basketball coach to reach the mark as No. 4 Louisiana Tech romped past South Alabama 90-33 Monday night.

For Barmore, the mark came in his hometown, at his alma mater.

"That's what made it so special," he said.

It also came with a program he helped build to prominence, first as an assistant, then as a co-head coach with Sonya Hogg, then as head coach.

Now in his 18th season in charge, Barmore has a career record of 500-76. After a postgame ceremony, he was ready to move on.

"I've been wanting the attention focused more on the team than myself," he said.

Barmore is in his 18th season at Tech and has a career record of 500-76.

Tamicha Jackson scored 17 points, Betty Lennox had 15 and Shaka Massey 10 for Tech (11-2, 2-0 Sun Belt).

Taneshia Russell led South Alabama (5-7, 0-1) with 10.

Tech, which lost 90-63 Jan. 2 to top-ranked Connecticut, took a 15-2 lead and was ahead 40-20 at halftime.

The second half was even worse for cold-shooting, turnover-prone South Alabama as Tech went on a 30-5 run, including Lennox's spurt of 10 straight points.
