WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rutgers (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, No. 9 AP) executed its game plan to perfection Wednesday night by shutting down Georgetown guard Katie Smrcka-Duffy in its 60-48 victory.

"We basically tried to make sure she didn't get many good looks," Rutgers forward Usha Gilmore said of Smrcka-Duffy, the Hoyas' scoring leader who managed just seven points on 2-for-16 shooting. "We know that she is the bread and butter of their offense, so we always were aware of where she was."

Guard Shawnetta Stewart had a game-high 15 points and eight rebounds, and center Tammy Sutton-Brown had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Rutgers (11-2, 4-0 Big East) to its eighth consecutive victory.

Gilmore added eight points and six rebounds for the Scarlet Knights, who have won 11 of their last 12.

Georgetown (7-7, 1-3), which has played four consecutive games against ranked teams and three straight against top 10 opponents, missed its first 12 field-goal attempts.

"Quite frankly, we over-dribbled the ball," Georgetown coach Patrick Knapp said. "We have to look to get it inside. I thought we were timid early when we needed some key defensive stops."

Rutgers took a 13-1 lead on a jumper by Karlita Washington with 9:58 remaining in the first half. It took 11 minutes, 6 seconds for the Hoyas to hit a field goal, a 12-foot turnaround jumper by Smrcka-Duffy, the Big East's second-leading scorer who entered the game averaging 18.2 points.

Georgetown guard Dani Ilic hit three 3-pointers in the final 5 minutes of the first half, trimming the Scarlet Knights' lead to 24-20 at halftime. She finished with nine points in 19 minutes, but played only eight minutes in the second half.

The Hoyas pulled to 42-36 on a pair of free throws by Jewel Snowden with 5:42 left in the game, but that was as close as they got.

Porshia Jones also scored nine for the Hoyas.
