Tulane's record run comes to a close

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Portia Flournoy scored 17 points and led two decisive spurts as Cincinnati beat Tulane 70-59 Friday night, the first loss of the season for the Green Wave (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP).

Tulane (14-1, 3-1 Conference USA) wasted an 11-point lead in the first half and failed to score for nearly seven minutes in the second half as Cincinnati (8-6, 2-2) pulled away.

The loss ended the longest winning streak by a women's team in school and Conference USA history.

Grace Daley scored 23 points and helped Tulane get off to a fast start. She made two 3-pointers and a jump shot as the Green Wave opened a 15-6 lead.

The Bearcats responded with a 17-5 run behind Flournoy, who made a jumper, a three-point play and a layup to put Cincinnati ahead 23-20.

It stayed close until Cincinnati went on a 12-0 run for a 48-36 lead midway through the second half. Flournoy again led the way with two jumpers and a layup.

Tulane missed 10 shots and had two turnovers during the run. The Green Wave got no closer than eight points the rest of the way, as Cincinnati maintained a comfortable margin by hitting 6-of-12 free throws in the closing minutes.

Cincinnati dominated the boards 48-32 and had 22 offensive rebounds, 17 in the second half. Laura Wilder led with 15 rebounds, including 11 offensive rebounds.
