The Blue Devils (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today; No. 11 AP) strengthened their hold on first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference while improving to 16-1 overall and 5-0 in the ACC.

Angie Cossey scored 14 points and was the only player in double figures for Clemson (11-6, 2-3 ACC).

Despite shooting 45 percent (18-for-40), the most accurate of any Duke opponent this season, Clemson produced its fewest points of the year.

The Blue Devils got their 19th straight ACC win at home and snapped Clemson's mini streak of two consecutive wins over Top 25 opponents -- North Carolina and North Carolina State.

Duke held Clemson to nine points during an 18:33 stretch.

Peppi Browne scored four of her eight points in the final 2:07 before halftime, rallying Duke to a 28-25 lead at the break.

The Blue Devils trailed 23-17 midway through the first half, but then held Clemson to one basket in the final 6:21 and scored nine straight points in the final 2:47 before intermission. They had a 23-7 run in the first 12:13 of the second half, holding Clemson scoreless for 6:34.

Clemson was within 55-48 with 4:08 to play and Duke went without a basket after Lauren Rice's 3-pointer at the 8:32 mark. But the Blue Devils sank 10 of their 13 free throws to clinch the victory.
