Morton paves way to C-USA win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Jill Morton had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead Louisville to a 75-72 win over Tulane (No. 15 ESPN/USA Today; No. 13 AP) on Sunday.

The loss was the second straight for Tulane (14-2, 3-2 Conference USA) after winning its first 14 games.

Louisville (10-6, 3-2) jumped to a 42-40 lead in the second half on a layup and free throw by Jenny Knight at 17:23, and never surrendered the lead. With 3:46 left in the game, Louisville widened the gap to 71-62 on a pair of free throws by Shamika Ingram.

Tulane closed the gap with a 3-pointer from Grace Daley with 34 seconds left. Daley finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Tulane fouled Louisville twice in the last 22 seconds and the Cardinals hit two free throws to make it 75-69.

Britt Themann hit a 3-pointer for Tulane with one second remaining to close scoring. Themann finished with 16 points.

Alison Bass also scored 16 points for Louisville. Janell Burse led Tulane scorers with 19 points.
