Wolfpack: fifth straight win over Heels

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Summer Erb had 25 points and 16 rebounds to help rally North Carolina State (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) to an 86-76 victory over North Carolina on Thursday night.

Terah James added 19 points and Tynesha Lewis 13 as the Wolfpack (17-4, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Tar Heels (11-10, 3-7) for the fifth straight time.

Reserve Amy Simpson added 11 points and six rebounds off the bench for N.C. State.

LaQuanda Barksdale led North Carolina with 20 points and 10 rebounds but was held without a field goal in the second half.

Nikki Teasley had 12 points and six assists and LaShonda Allen scored 11 points for the Tar Heels.

N.C. State dominated North Carolina 50-31 on the boards and got 19 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.

Paced by Barksdale's 7-for-11 shooting, North Carolina hit 21 of its first 43 shots, then missed 18 of its next 19 as N.C. State reeled off a 20-5 run and led 66-56 with 8:17 to play.

North Carolina closed to 79-74 on Teasley's layup and free throw with 1:10 left. But the Wolfpack hit five of seven free throws in the last 1:09, while North Carolina missed three of four shots from the floor in the same stretch.

Erb injured her left foot with 36 seconds left when she was fouled from behind by Allen on a fast-break layup that gave N.C. State an 85-76 lead. Erb was to have her foot X-rayed Friday morning.
