AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- After 50 minutes of the hardest basketball she had ever played, Melinda Schmucker-Pharies had had enough. There would be no third overtime.

The Texas Tech guard hit four foul shots over the final 20 seconds of the second overtime Wednesday night to secure No. 7 Texas Tech's 91-85 victory over unranked Texas.

	Aleah Johnson and Texas Tech had to fight off a Longhorns team bent on taking away their Big 12 lead.

"I knew I didn't want to go to into triple overtime," she said. "I had a chance to step up and win the game and that's what I did."

The Red Raiders (22-3, 11-3 Big 12) blew out Texas (17-10, 8-6) by 29 points three weeks ago but found themselves in a drawn-out slugfest in the first overtime game of the 59-game series between the teams.

The Red Raiders had to survive woeful foul shooting (23-of-42) and a career-high 34 points and 18 rebounds by Texas' Edwina Brown for just their fourth victory in Austin.

"I keep thinking the Big 12 won't have any better games, but they keep getting better," Texas Tech coach Marsha Sharp said. "It was like a heavyweight fight. ... It was just a matter of who was standing at the end."

Tech shot 49 percent from the floor but almost watched Texas steal a victory as the Red Raiders, who used only seven players, got tired and started to foul out.

Plenette Pierson, who scored 20 points for the Tech, missed two foul shots with 5.1 seconds left that allowed Texas to tie it at 70 and send the game into overtime.

After her second miss, Texas got the rebound but still had to go the length of the court in four seconds.

After calling timeout, the Longhorns got the ball inbounds to Brown, who was fouled deep in her own end by Aleah Johnson to get to the line. Brown, who was 13-of-13 at the line at that point, rattled both around the rim and in to send the game into overtime.

Brown had a chance to win it in the final seconds of the first extra period but missed the first of two foul shots before hitting the second to tie it at 81. Brown, who played all 50 minutes, did not score in the second overtime.

"We had four different players on Edwina Brown. We did everything we could to try and stop her," Sharp said

Pierson, meanwhile, scored the first four points of the second extra period to give Tech an 85-81 lead.

Texas's Lindsey Ryan hit a jumper and dumped the ball inside to JoRuth Woods for a layup to pull the Longhorns within 87-85 with 1:06 left before Pierson again missed two foul shots.

Brown came up short on a 10-footer with 30 seconds left. The Red Raiders grabbed the rebound and forced Texas to send Schmucker-Pharies to the line. The Red Raiders outscored Texas 10-4 in the final overtime.

Schmucker-Pharies, who averages 6.7 points, finished with 14. Johnson added 21 points for Tech before fouling out at the end of regulation.

Tracy Cook and Woods each scored 14 for Texas.

"I don't know what to say about a game like this," Texas coach Jody Conradt said. "We left everything on the floor, it just didn't happen for us."
