STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- The senior members of the No. 6 Penn State women's basketball team ended their career in style during their final regular-season home game -- by clinching the Big Ten title. Andrea Garner had 20 points and seven rebounds as Penn State won its seventh straight game and defeated Minnesota 92-43 Thursday night. "We always said this was our goal to win the Big Ten, and tonight we finally did it," senior Andrea Garner said. The Lady Lions (23-3, 14-1) won their third Big Ten championship, having done it in 1994 and 1995. "This game meant a lot to the girls, they wanted the Big Ten crown more than anything," Penn State coach Rene Portland said. Lisa Shepherd added 19 points for Penn State, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The Lady Lions finished the regular season unblemished at home (13-0), a feat they have not accomplished since the 1994 season. Erin Olson led Minnesota (9-17, 2-13) with 14 points and Cassie VanderHeyden added 10 points. Penn State dominated the game, leading 37-19 at halftime before launching a 21-2 run led by seniors Andrea Garner, Marissa Graby and Helen Darling to go up 58-21 with 12:55 remaining. Darling had a career-high seven steals. "We knew we were up, but we wanted to go out and score a lot of points in the second half," Garner said. "We wanted nothing to stand on our way of the championship." The Lady Lions scored the game's first 10 points and forced the Gophers to commit 20 turnovers before the break. For the game, the Gophers committed 34 turnovers, one below their season high of 35 against Penn State earlier this year. "The turnovers were due to both our team and the Penn State defense," Minnesota coach Cheryl Littlejohn said. "Give Penn State a lot of credit, they are a great team." After Shepherd hit a 3-pointer just 12 seconds into the game, teammate Helen Darling scored two quick buckets, then Chrissy Falcone hit a 3 with 15:34 left as Penn State took a 10-0 lead. The Lady Lions hold a 14-1 series advantage over Minnesota since 1992, when they joined the Big Ten.
