DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Georgia Schweitzer scored 16 points and Sheana Mosch added 12 as No. 22 Duke overcame a poor shooting night to beat UNC-Greensboro 72-47 Monday night in the opening round of the Women's Preseason NIT.
Lauren Rice added 11 points for Duke in the teams' season opener, while Katie DelCampo led UNC-Greensboro with 13 points. Duke's next game will be Wednesday against No. 20 Boston College, which beat Maine 83-56 in the first round. Despite 9-for-26 shooting in the first half, Duke took control of the game early and led 37-27 at halftime. The Spartans rallied within 40-33 early in the second half, but after a Duke timeout, Rice scored her last basket to start a 14-0 run and UNC-Greensboro never got closer than 56-39. Duke shot 10-for-29 in the second half but repeatedly beat the Spartans in transition and held them scoreless for stretches of 6:05 and 5:27. The Blue Devils forced 30 turnovers and the Spartans shot 18-for-52 from the field. Duke used a 16-2 run midway through the first half to turn a one-point game into a 26-11 lead. Schweitzer was 7-of-21 from the field, including 1-for-5 from 3-point range. Rochelle Parent had 11 rebounds and two blocks to help the Blue
Devils control the boards.
