STATE COLLEGE, Pennsylvania (Ticker) -- Rashana Barnes scored 15 points off the bench to lead five players in double figures as No. 10 Penn State opened its season with a 76-54 triumph over Villanova.

Penn State (1-0) gained control when it scored the first seven points and used a 16-0 run to open a 23-2 lead nine minutes into the contest. The Lady Lions shot 51 percent (19-of-37) in the first half and led 43-19 at halftime. Villanova shot 21 percent (6-of-28) in the opening 20 minutes.

Katrena Carr and Helen Darling scored 14 points, Andrea Garner 12 and Maren Walseth had 11 for Penn State. The Lady Lions starters outscored the Wildcats, 55-27.

Garner, a senior, grabbed 11 rebounds for her 31st double-double as Penn State outrebounded Villanova 54-33, including 21-8 on the offensive boards.

Freshman Katie Davis scored 18 points off the bench for Villanova (0-1) in her first collegiate game and Trish Juhline added 14. Stephanie Baker pulled down 11 rebounds.
