Lady Monarchs reign over Clemson

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Lucienne Berthieu scored 18 points as Old Dominion (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 14 AP) beat Clemson 68-57 Wednesday in the first round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Challenge.

Berthieu had six points in a 13-2 run over the last four minutes to help Old Dominion (2-0) pull away.

Both teams struggled early from the field, but Clemson (2-1) never recovered and shot only 31 percent for the game.

Old Dominion shot 34.5 percent in the first half, but then found the range and hit 61 percent after the break. That helped the Lady Monarchs overcome 23 turnovers in the game.

Amirah Leonard scored 25 points for Clemson, including 19 in the second half. She scored nine points in a 20-6 run to pull the Tigers within 51-49.

Berthieu had 10 rebounds for Old Dominion, which outrebounded Clemson 45-31.

Tiffany Thompson and Sharron Francis each scored 13 points for the Lady Monarchs. Clemson's Nuria Forns had eight points before fouling out with 5:40 left.
