CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- LaQuanda Barksdale scored 21 points and Jackie Higgins and Nikki Teasley added 13 apiece as No. 11 North Carolina cruised to an 82-55 victory over East Tennessee State. Barksdale was 10-of-17 from the field and grabbed six rebounds in 28 minutes for the Tar Heels (2-1), who have won two straight following a season-opening loss to UCLA. North Carolina shot 44 percent (34-of-77) from the field while holding East Tennessee State (2-1) to just 27 percent (17-of-64). The Lady Buccaneers committed 21 turnovers and were outrebounded, 54-47. Shawn Thompson and Samantha Copeland each had 11 points for East Tennessee State (2-1), which opened the season with wins over Radford and Coastal Carolina. The Tar Heels never trailed, opening a 7-0 lead on Barksdale's jumper with 15:41 remaining. After the Lady Buccaneers closed to 12-11 on Shashona Johnson's foul shot, North Carolina ripped off an 18-7 run to make it 30-18 on Barksdale's basket with 5:24 to play in the first half. After settling for a 36-26 halftime lead, the Tar Heels wore down the Lady Buccaneers in the second half and took their largest lead at 74-46 with 4:33 to go. North Carolina made 18-of-37 shots over the final 20 minutes, compared to just 8-of-33 for East Tennessee State.
