ORONO, Maine (AP) -- Sophomore Tawana McDonald took another step forward for Georgia on Friday night. McDonald had 23 points and 16 rebounds, both career highs, to lead No. 3 Georgia to an 85-44 victory over Stephen F. Austin in the semifinals of the Dead River Classic on Friday night. "She didn't really play well until the last two weeks last season," Coach Andy Landers said. "This is another step in her growth pattern." McDonald, 6-foot-4, was 10-for-14 from the field, and also blocked five shots. She missed the first half of last season with a knee injury, but returned in time to help the Bulldogs to a Final Four appearance. The Bulldogs (5-0) built an 11-0 lead, and held Stephen F. Austin (2-1) to 3-for-28 shooting in the first half. Georgia was 22-for-35 in the half, and led 48-15 at the break. "I was surprised," Landers said. "They are a better basketball team than they showed. "This has been a good tournament with a good reputation. I expect all three of our opponents to be in the NCAA tournament and win conference championships." Coco Miller added 17 points for Georgia, and Deana Nolan had 12. Kelly Miller had eight assists. Shawnta Johnson led Stephen F. Austin with 16 points. The Bulldogs, who also outrebounded the Ladyjacks 56-37, will play for the title Saturday night against Maine, a 71-62 winner over St. Francis (Pa.) in the other semifinal. | ALSO SEE Womens College Basketball Scoreboard
