LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) -- Coach Leon Barmore apparently had no trouble preparing No. 3 Louisiana Tech for its Sun Belt Conference opener against a team it had never lost to.

Ayana Walker and Brooke Lassiter each scored 16 points Thursday night and Tech beat Louisiana-Lafayette 90-45, its 34th victory over the Lady Cajuns in as many meetings.

"We really tried to prepare for this game," Barmore said. "We have seven conference championships, and we are trying to zero in on an eighth. We have to take all games seriously."

Tech (7-1), which also got 11 rebounds from Cheryl Ford, scored 28 of the game's first 31 points and had 45 points before Louisiana-Lafayette (4-4) reached double figures. It was 60-15 at halftime.

"We shot so poorly at the start and had too many early turnovers," Louisiana-Lafayette coach Gay Nix said. "We just never got in a flow offensively until the second half, when it was too late."

The Lady Techsters shot 55.6 percent in the first half and held Louisiana-Lafayette to 5-of-28 shooting (17.9 percent).

The Lady Techsters opened the second half with a 19-7 run and eventually got the lead up to 60 points late in the game. After committing 20 turnovers in the first half, the Cajuns finished with 29.

Kristy King had 10 points to lead Louisiana-Lafayette.

"They already have a better record than last season," Barmore said of the Cajuns, who were 1-26 last year and were 4-0 at home this season. "We didn't know what to expect because they were undefeated at home. But it was obvious that we had much more talent."
