SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- Ruth Riley didn't let foul trouble keep her from finishing off Valparaiso.

Playing just 17 minutes because of foul problems, Riley still managed 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Notre Dame (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 10 AP) to an 88-63 victory over Valparaiso on Wednesday night.

Alicia Ratay added 14 points for Notre Dame (8-2), Niele had 13 points and seven steals, and Danielle Green had 11 points.

Valparaiso center Marlous Nieuwveen, who had been averaging just under six points, led all scorers with 25 points.

With Riley sitting out most of the second half and power forward Julie Henderson having fouled out, the Irish hit 4-of-7 3-pointers in the half and held Valparaiso (6-4) to just 37 percent shooting (18-for-49) for the game.

Leading 49-36 with 12:31 left, Riley went to the bench with her fourth foul. If the Crusaders were going to get back in the game, that was their chance.

"I think at times some officials will call one thing, but that shouldn't really be a factor in the game," Riley said.

After Ratay hit a 3-pointer, Henderson fouled out. Ivey and Ratay responded with 3-pointers as the Irish built their lead to 18 and were never threatened again.

The loss was the first in six games for Valparaiso.

Despite the 25-point victory, Notre Dame coach Muffed McGraw found some flaws in her team's play.

"We didn't play smart and we didn't play good defense," McGraw said. "And that's disappointing."
