DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Georgia Schweitzer scored 18 points to lead Duke to a 68-53 victory over Georgetown on Thursday night. After a sluggish first half, Peppi Browne's layup 1 second before halftime gave Duke a 24-23 halftime lead. The Blue Devils (No. 11 ESPN/USA Today; No. 15 AP) used an 11-0 run to take a 37-25 lead with 14:57 remaining. Duke extended its lead to 24 points midway through the second half. Duke (12-1) hit 21 of 26 free throws, including 17-of-21 in the second half, as the win equaled the best start in school history. Georgetown (7-4) took command early as it built a 17-8 lead on a seven-point run. Georgetown's Katie Smrcka-Duffy led the Hoyas with 14 points and eight rebounds while Nok Duany added 12 points. With the win, Duke went 32-4 overall in 1999.
Browne finished with 17 points and Lauren Rice added 13 points and eight rebounds for Duke. Rochelle Parent grabbed nine rebounds.
