ESPN.com The term "break a leg" means good luck for some. But when Katie Douglas broke her arm twice while playing softball, it worked the same magic for Purdue.
Douglas, a junior for the defending national championship Boilermakers, started off her athletic career as a softball player. But after suffering two broken arms, Douglas "decided to try something different," and eventually began playing basketball. A decade later, Douglas has won a national title and been honored as the Big Ten Player of the Year. Douglas shared her story on a survey she completed for ESPN.com. More than 20 players were asked to participate, and the Tournament Dish will continue to roll out the Bio Rhythms -- a fun and humorous look at the athlete by the athlete -- throughout the women's NCAA Tournament. I broke my arm twice in softball and decided to try something different. I was about 10 years old when I started getting serious about basketball. What is your best memory or moment on the basketball court? When I threw the ball up as high as I could right before the final whistle blew and we won the national championship. Do you have any pregame rituals? I have so many superstitions before a game that it's kind of ridiculous. I must take a nap and I must drink a Dr. Pepper. We eat Chicken (with Teriyaki sauce), mashed potatoes, corn and fruit salad before every game. Who is the best player you've ever faced? Stephanie McCarty, Ukari Figgs and Chamique Holdsclaw.
