| Southwest Missouri State Lady Bears RECORD: 23-9 COACH: Cheryl Burnett | SEASON RESULTS | OUTLOOK First round: Lost to Auburn, 78-74
It's a good thing Jackie Stiles is as good as everyone says, because the 5-foot-8 junior guard will be counted on to do it all if the Lady Bears are going to notch a win in their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Stiles, who leads the nation in scoring, averaging 27 points through the regular season, has scored 38 percent of the Bears' points this season (757 of 1,982). Only one other player averages better than 6.5 ppg. Stiles also shoots 49 percent from the floor, 46 percent from 3-point range, and has scored in double-figures in more than 50 games, and in all but two of her 90-plus career outings. In 1999, Stiles led No. 7 seed SMS to a 72-70 victory over No. 10 seed UC Santa Barbara before losing to second-seeded Colorado State. Key stat: How capable is Stiles? Against Evansville in the MVC semifinal, she poured in a school-record 56 points, the fourth best single-game mark in NCAA women's history.
