OUTLOOK First round: Lost to George Washington, 79-72
The Bruins started the season as national-title contenders and ranked fourth in the coaches' poll. But a tough non-conference schedule in November and December (including losses to UConn, La. Tech, Tennessee and Rutgers), as well as the absence of then-injured senior point guard Erica Gomez took a toll on the defending Pac-10 co-champions. The Bruins' biggest non-league wins were over North Carolina, Texas and Old Dominion. But after Pac-10 losses to Oregon, Stanford, USC, Oregon State and Cal, the Bruins fell out of the top 25 in March. Even with National Player of the Year candidate Maylana Martin and talented freshman Nicole Kaczmarski, the Bruins have been one of the season's biggest disappointments.
