Christensen to miss at least five weeks

Associated Press

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Starting UC Santa Barbara center Kayte Christensen has a broken left wrist that will keep her out of action for at least five weeks, it was announced Friday.

Christensen, a 6-foot-3 sophomore, is averaging 10.4 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Gauchos (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP), who were scheduled to host UC Irvine on Friday night.

Christensen, from Alturas, Calif., was injured during UCSB's game against Vanderbilt on Jan. 25. An MRI test Thursday revealed she has a stable fracture in her left wrist. She will keep her wrist in a cast before undergoing another MRI test on March 6.

It's expected that Christensen, who had played in all 18 UCSB games before being injured, will be replaced in the starting lineup by junior Nicole Greathouse.
