Duo leads No. 18 Northwestern women past Rutgers 82-65

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Lindsey Pulliam and Veronica Burton combined for 50 points, 30 in a dominate middle two quarters as No. 18 Northwestern won its sixth straight by blitzing Rutgers 82-65 on Wednesday night.

Pulliam finished with 27 points, hitting four 3s, with seven rebounds and five assists. Burton scored 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting with nine assists and five steals. Abbie Wolf added 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting with eight rebounds.

The Wildcats led 16-14 after one quarter but outscored the Scarlet Knights 21-8 in the second quarter and 27-15 in the third to lead 64-37.

Northwestern (23-3, 13-2 Big Ten Conference) was 7 of 10 in the second quarter with a pair of 3-pointers and 10 of 14 in the third, going 4 of 5 from distance.

Rutgers (18-8, 8-7), which is 3-6 after getting off to its best start in 19 seasons, was 7-of-22 shooting in the middle quarters.

The Wildcats ended up shooting 59%, going 10 of 20 behind the arc, against a team leading the league in defense at 54.8 points a game.

Arella Guirantes was 11 for 11 from the foul line and had 19 points for Rutgers, while Jordan Wallace scored 16. KK Sanders became the 10th Scarlet Knight to reach 400 assists, her six putting her at 403.
