Sunshine Coast defensive duo Karla Pretorius and Phuma Maweni have re-signed with the Lightning ahead of this weekend's Super Netball grand final.
The South African pair have formed a strong defensive pairing for the Lightning, who will be chasing a three-peat of Super Netball titles when they host NSW Swifts in Sunday's decider.
Lightning assistant coach Kylee Byrne, who will replace Noeline Taurua in the head coaching role after Sunday's grand final, was obviously delighted to lock down both players for the 2020 campaign.
"Seeing Karla and Phummy develop their craft this season has been something special to watch and we can't wait to see them both playing in the Lightning dress next year," Byrne said.
"To have one of the best players in the world commit to our program is very special, Karla has built on really strong 2017 and 2018 seasons and I think still has room to move in her game, especially with her combination with Phummy."
Pretorius is a foundation Lightning player, winning the best player award at the recent World Cup to confirm her standing as one of the best netballers on the planet.
Maweni joined the Lightning at the beginning of 2019 and quickly made a name for herself as goalkeeper after beginning her professional career in England.
