PONTIAC, Michigan (Ticker) -- The Green Bay Packers seek their first win in three years at the Pontiac Silverdome today when they face the Detroit Lions.

The teams have split the season series over the last two years with each club winning at home.

Charlie Batch outplayed Brett Favre in the Lions' 27-20 win over the Packers last October 15 at the Silverdome. Batch completed 16-of-19 passes for 218 yards while Favre was intercepted three times.

The Lions have been a foil for Favre at the Silverdome. In the past six games there, five of them Detroit wins, he has been intercepted 16 times.

However, Barry Sanders was a major factor in Detroit's win in 1998, rushing for 155 yards on 25 carries. Two years ago, Sanders rushed for 139 yards in the Lions' 26-15 win over Green Bay. Of course, the Packers do not have to contend with Sanders this time.

Life without Sanders actually started out on a positive note for the Lions, who upset the Seattle Seahawks, 28-20 in their season opener last week. In his first game replacing Sanders in the backfield, Ron Rivers rushed for 96 yards on 16 carries. Rivers was named the starter with the offseason retirement of Sanders.

However, the Lions lost star wideout Herman Moore for the next 3-5 weeks with a sprained left knee.

Favre's one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jeff Thomason with 11 seconds remaining lifted Green Bay to a 28-24 win over the Oakland Raiders in Ray Rhodes' first game as Packers coach.

Battling a jammed thumb on his throwing hand, Favre drove the Packers 82 yards in the final two minutes without any timeouts. The three-time MVP overcame three interceptions, completing 28-of-47 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

Lions end Robert Porcher posted three sacks and six tackles in Detroit's season opener and was named as the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. The three sacks equalled the highest output of Week One, matched by Chad Bratzke of Indianapolis.

The Lions are seeking their first 2-0 start since 1993.

The Packers lead the series, 70-60-7.
