Packers 20, Bears 12
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Jim Miller's fourth-down pass attempt to James Allen fell short with 34 seconds left in the game. The loss of downs sealed the Packers' win and ended Chicago's six-game streak. The Packers defense, which didn't allow a touchdown Sunday. The Bears moved into the Green Bay red zone four times, but were unable to convert any of those chances into TDs. It looks like Chicago's next two games -- both on the road (Tampa Bay and Minnesota) -- will dictate which direction their season takes. The Bears are performing well on defense, but the offense needs to make more plays.
UP NEXT: Packers (6-2) vs. Falcons (2-5)   |    Bears (6-2) at Bucs (4-4)

Falcons 20, Cowboys 13
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Atlanta killed the clock in the fourth quarter, driving to the Dallas 1-yard line to set up Jay Feely's 19-yard field goal. The conversion gave the Falcons a 20-13 edge with 1:11 left. Darrien Gordon, who ran back three punt returns for 139, two of which set up scoring drives in the fourth quarter that led Atlanta to a victory. If the Falcons have some success throwing the ball, then Smith will have a chance to be successful running it. He has size, strength and speed -- so he has the tools to get it done on the ground.
UP NEXT: Falcons (4-4) at Packers (6-2)   |    Cowboys (2-6) vs. Eagles (5-3)

Steelers 15, Browns 12
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Kris Brown converted a 32-yard field goal with 9:38 left in overtime to give the Steelers the win. It has to be Brown. Yes, Jerome Bettis had another big game (163 yards), but Brown rebounded from missing four FGs last week to converting five this week. The Browns' defense was simply worn down by the Steelers. The Browns' D is a tired, injury-laden unit to begin with. When you're on the field for 70 plays and have fewer guys, that makes it tough.
UP NEXT: Steelers (6-2) vs. Jaguars (3-5)   |    Browns (4-4) at Ravens (5-3)

Buccaneers 20, Lions 17
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Martin Gramatica kicked a 35-yard field goal with four seconds left in the game to lift the Buccaneers to victory. The Bucs offense, who effectively killed the clock late in the fourth to leave no room for Detroit. After the Lions tied it up, Tampa Bay drove 63 yards in 1:45 to set up Gramatica's winner. The Lions need a quarterback they feel comfortable with and confident in. The defense has let them down, too. The Lions thought their defensive front seven would be much better, but it hasn't played up to expectations.
UP NEXT: Bucs (4-4) vs. Bears (6-2)   |    Lions (0-8) at Cardinals (2-6)

Dolphins 27, Colts 24
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Jason Taylor recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to set up the Dolphins' winning drive -- Jay Fiedler's 29-yard touchdown pass to Chris Chambers. Dolphins QB Jay Fielder. Yes, Miami's defense forced the turnovers, but Fiedler executed the rally as the Dolphins converted two late Indy turnovers to pull off the win. The Colts' defense was improving, being more aggressive and creating turnovers. But to see the offense make key mistakes today and not be able to pull the game out had to be frustrating for the defense.
UP NEXT: Dolphins (6-2) vs. Jets (6-3)   |    Colts (4-4) at Saints (4-4)

Rams 48, Panthers 14
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
It was done before the half. The Rams built a 31-0 lead behind two touchdowns by Marshall Faulk before the Panthers even got on the board. He returns, and it was like he was never gone. After missing almost a month, Marshall Faulk rushed for 183 yards and two TDs in just one half that included a career-best 71-yard score. When teams play Carolina these days, it's a pad-the-stats game. The Panthers' defense is beat up at virtually every position and they don't have a quarterback. Carolina is playing a lot of guys who couldn't start for a lot of teams.
UP NEXT: Rams (7-1) at Patriots (5-4)   |    Panthers (1-8) vs. Niners (6-2)

Patriots 21, Bills 11
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Antowain Smith ran through the middle for a 42-yard touchdown with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter to put the game away for new England. Patriots RB Antowain Smith, the latest former Bill to reek havoc on his former team. Smith ran for 100 yards on 20 carries for two touchdowns. With QB Tom Brady's success, defenses know they have to guard against the pass, which makes Antowain Smith that much more effective. Did anyone think that a Brady-Smith tandem would lead the Patriots to the playoffs?
UP NEXT: Patriots (5-4) vs. Rams (7-1)   |    Bills (1-7) vs. Seahawks (4-4)

Jets 27, Chiefs 7
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Curtis Martin scored on a 5-yard run midway in the third quarter to give the Jets a 24-0 lead. It was his third touchdown of the game. Think the Chiefs are happy about the bye week? Curtis Martin again. Along with the three TDs, he ran for 113 yards on 20 carries. The Jets' defense also came up big with three INTs and three sacks in their third straight victory. The Jets are winning by running the ball and -- all of a sudden -- playing pretty good defense. Young guys on D are growing and learning the system as the season progresses. The Jets are a team to be reckoned with in the AFC East.
UP NEXT: Jets (6-3) at Dolphins (6-2)   |    Chiefs (2-7) -- BYE

Jaguars 30, Bengals 13
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
In the third quarter. The Jaguars came back in that period, scoring 21 points to take a 28-13 lead that they held on to until the end. The Bengals, who made too many mistakes Sunday. Cincinnati committed 107 yards' worth of penalties, not a statistic that is going to win many football games. The Jaguars have some talent on offense, and their defense shut Corey Dillon down. When Dillon is shut down, it forces quarterback Jon Kitna to win the game. He's not good enough to do that -- especially on the road.
UP NEXT: Jaguars (3-5) at Steelers (6-2)   |    Bengals (4-4) vs. Titans (3-4)

Broncos 26, Chargers 16
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Doug Flutie threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter to squander any hopes of a San Diego comeback victory. The Broncos' defense. After losing by 10 to Oakland last week, the Denver defense allowed seasons lows of 243 total yards and nine first downs. The Broncos had been struggling in recent weeks running the ball. Terrell Davis looked strong and explosive to the hole. His running opened things up for QB Brian Griese and wideout Rod Smith.
UP NEXT: Broncos (5-4) vs. Redskins (3-5)   |    Chargers (5-4) at Raiders (6-2)

Eagles 48, Vikings 17
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
This one was done from the get-go. The Eagles scored 24 points in the second quarter and the Vikings were never in it. Duce Staley, who made a strong return and gave the Eagles offense a much-needed boost. In his first game since Week 2, he rushed for 146 yards and a TD. And Donovan McNabb? He had four TDs. You can put a fork in 'em, I think the Vikings are done. You could see it clearly today. Even after a bye week, they came out unprepared and didn't compete vs. the Eagles. The bickering will likely get worse for Minnesota.
UP NEXT: Eagles (5-3) at Cowboys (2-6)   |    Vikings (3-5) vs. Giants (5-4)

Giants 17, Cardinals 10
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
Morten Anderson kicked a 25-yard field goal with 5:07 left in the fourth quarter to help the Giants pull away. New York's Michael Strahan, who has been the focal point all season for the Giants. His sack of Jake Plummer in the second quarter stopped the Cards' rally and led to a Giants TD. In the second half, the Giants got back to the running game. They would have been better off had they started by establishing the ground game rather than passing, because Kerry Collins again made some poor decisions early on.
UP NEXT: Giants (5-4) at Vikings (3-5)   |    Cardinals (2-6) vs. Lions (0-8)

49ers 28, Saints 27
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ... Vinny Cerrato's analysis
In the last three minutes of the game. After New Orleans converted a 36-yard field goal to pull within one point, the Niners efficiently killed the clock and didn't allow the Saints to get the ball back. Niners running back Garrison Hearst. Against a stingy run defense, he rushed for 145 yards on 17 carries and 119 of those yards came in the second half. The Saints have to get tougher at home and not make mistakes, but take advantage of scoring opportunities (QB Aaron Brooks has had a tough time in the red zone). From here on, they're all big games for the Saints.
UP NEXT: Niners (6-2) at Panthers (1-8)   |    Saints (4-4) vs. Colts (4-4)

Seahawks 34, Raiders 27
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ...
Shaun Alexander ran for a club-best 88-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to give the Seahawks a 27-20 edge -- a lead they would not relinquish. The Raiders ran out of time at midfield while trailing 34-27. Alexander did everything but literally break the NFL single-game rushing record. His 266 yards was 12 shy of Corey Dillon's mark.
UP NEXT: Seahawks (4-4) at Bills (1-7)   |    Raiders (6-2) vs. Chargers (5-4)

Ravens 16, Titans 10
RECAP | BOX SCORE
It was over when ... Game ball goes to ...
With no time left, the Ravens stuffed Steve McNair on an ill-fated 1-yard QB sneak attempt. Ravens LB Ray Lewis. Always great, but his 15 tackles were astounding.
UP NEXT: Titans (3-5) at Bengals (4-4)   |    Ravens (6-3) at Browns (4-4)
