Offensive player of the week:
Patriots wide receiver David Patten. Ran for a score, threw for another and caught a pair of TDs (first player to do all three since Walter Payton in 1979) as New England blitzed Indy, 38-17.
Defensive player of the week:
Steelers outside linebacker Joey Porter. Six tackles and four of Pittsburgh's 10 sacks in a 17-10 win at Tampa Bay.
Special team player of the week:
Titans kicker Joe Nedney. Booted four field goals, including the game-winner for the second straight week, as Tennessee upended the Lions, 27-24.
Number of the week:
43. The number of points the Bears have allowed in five games during their 4-1 start. Last year, they gave up 130 points during a 1-4 start.
Surprise of the week:
Falcons over Saints. Last year, New Orleans swept Atlanta, which had won 10 straight in the series. But Dan Reeves and company came out on top Sunday.
Coaching move of the week:
Bill Belichick. He continues his mastery of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning and his team, beating Indianapolis by 21 points for the second time this season.
Rising this week:
Bears. Defense has been strong, and now here comes the running game behind rookie running back Anthony Thomas.
Falling this week:
Buccaneers. Wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson has been lone bright spot as Tony Dungy's club looks less than average.
Store it away:
There could be a quarterback change coming in Baltimore (Randall Cunningham for Elvis Grbac).
