About the play: Redskins coach Norv Turner loved this play in Dallas with Alvin Harper, who was a big, strong receiver. Michael Westbrook is the same way, but stronger. Brad Johnson has a great arm with accuracy. He always threw this pass well to Cris Carter when they played together in Minnesota. This is a perfect combination to execute the 10-yard, bang-it post. The 'Skins will put the strength of their formation to the right, so the Cowboys will kick their coverage that way, giving Westbrook and Johnson an off corner (Deion Sanders) who is small against a big receiver (Westbrook). The back will quickly run to the flat to clear out the weak-side linebacker, giving Johnson the throwing lane he needs. Johnson will take a quick five-step drop and throw when his back foot hits that fifth step. Johnson will throw to the spot where Westbrook will end up. He must throw before Westbrook is out of his break. This play will hit at about 18-yards deep, six to eight yards beyond Westbrook's breaking point. This pass is a dart with very little air under the throw. Key to the play: Timing. Johnson must trust that Westbrook will win. Critical player: It is critical that Westbrook uses his size. He must not be deterred in his effort to get to the 10- to 12-yard breaking point. If Westbrook uses his size, then the corner must go through or around Westbrook, which means the Redskins win. Johnson also must use his eyes to work the free safety to the two-receiver side so the free safety does not come into play. The back must clear the weak-side linebacker to get him out of the lane. When to expect this play: Look for this play when the Redskins cross midfield or are in the red zone, where they'll get the coverage they want. Defense's key: To defend this play, the corner must get inside leverage on Westbrook to force him flat and take away the throwing seam. The weak-side linebacker would love to hold in his drop a tad longer to force a high throw from Johnson. | ALSO SEE Playbook: Screen pass to Emmitt Smith
