About the play: Jeff George has the best arm in football -- no question. The change at quarterback gives the Vikings offense someone who can deliver the ball quickly, so Minnesota receivers need to be ready. This is a great play against a two-deep zone. Cris Carter operates the middle of the field better than any receiver in football. The Vikings' speed with Randy Moss and Jake Reed outside forces teams to play two-deep zone to stop Moss. That opens the pump route for Carter down the field at about 18 yards. The safety will widen, giving Carter a lot of room. George can get the ball to Carter in a hurry without giving the defense a chance to react. Carter will make a head fake to the corner and pump the middle of the field. Keys to the play: Moss and Reed must run hard outside to attract the safeties. Carter must get a good release on the linebacker so he can get to the intermediate level. George can't hesitate, and he won't. His throw has to have enough air to get over the linebacker and enough zip to beat the safeties. Critical player: Tight end Andrew Glover must run his route even with Carter because, if Dallas plays three-deep, then there will be a safety in the middle fo the field. George then would have to work the safety to the tight end so he can get the ball to Carter in the seam. When to expect the play: This play is great inside the opponents' 30-yard line area or on obvious run-down situations when you can anticipate two-deep.
Defensive strategy: The best defense is pressure on the quarterback. Also, a linebacker must not let Carter get a clean release. | ALSO SEE Ron Jaworski's Monday night breakdown
