The Seahawks arrive at Three Rivers Stadium for the second straight year as both clubs look to take the lead in this closely-contested series. These teams have split their previous 12 meetings, Steelers posting a 13-10 triumph last season (Week 4) in Pittsburgh to even this rivalry. The Seahawks are 1-5 lifetime at Three Rivers Stadium, their lone victory in Pittsburgh a 27-7 triumph in 1991. Numbers: Since 1996, the Seahawks have given up 392 points in 24 wins (16.3 PPG), 697 points in 26 losses (26.8 PPG). Since 1996, the Seahawks have allowed 140 or more yards rushing in 20-of-50 games, 180-plus yards rushing in eight of those contests. After scoring just five offensive touchdowns in their last seven games in '98, the Steelers have scored seven offensive touchdowns in two games in '99. In their last 64 home games (1992-98), including eight playoff contests, the Steelers have rushed for 9,275 yards (144.9 YPG rushing), have 37 100-yard individual rushing performances (16 by RB Jerome Bettis, 15 by since-departed RB Barry Foster) and have compiled a 50-14 record in those contests. Since 1996 (including playoffs), the Steelers are 24-3 when limiting the opposition to 17 or fewer points, 8-19 when giving up more than 17 points. Including playoffs, the Steelers have rushed for 130 or more yards in 23 of their last 36 games dating back to '97. The Steelers have totaled 26 takeaways in nine wins while forcing just 10 turnovers in 9 losses dating back to '98. They have allowed just 109 points in nine wins (15 or fewer points in 7 of those contests) while giving up 214 points in 9 losses dating back to '98. Things To Look For:After stealing a game at Soldier Field last Sunday, the Seahawks head to unfriendly Three Rivers to face a Steelers' team that the jury is still out on due to the level of their competition the first 2 weeks. Seattle's run defense still leaves a lot to be desired so look for Bill Cowher's club to unleash Rbs Jerome Bettis and Richard Huntley, as well as QB Kordell Stewart, who's done it with his legs early on. Etc.: The Steelers are 2-0 for the second straight year and the third time in five seasons (1995-99). Since entering the league together in 1992 (including postseason), Seahawks' head coach Mike Holmgren (85-43) and Steelers' head coach Bill Cowher (78-47) are a combined 163-90 (.644), have each been to the playoffs 6 times and have coached in 3 Super Bowls. Seahawks RB Ricky Watters (7,993) needs 88 yards to tie Larry Csonka (8,081) for 20th place on the NFL's all-time rushing list. The Steelers are 72-36 (including 5-5 in playoffs) vs. AFC teams dating back to '91. |
