The Ravens head to Tennessee as this short-lived AFC Central rivalry is renewed for the fourth consecutive year. These teams have split their previous six meetings, with the Titans sweeping the season series in 1996 and '98 and the Ravens managing that feat in '97. Last year, Tennessee took a pair from Baltimore for the second time in three years. In Week 6 at Camden Yards, Titans QB Steve McNair threw for 207 yards (1 INT) and ran 40 yards for a score in the first quarter, the only touchdown of the afternoon, as Tennessee held off the Ravens, 12-8. Eight weeks later at Vanderbilt Stadium (Week 14), Jeff Fisher's defense limited Baltimore to 221 total yards and sacked since-departed Ravens QB Jim Harbaugh six times in a narrow 16-14 triumph. The Ravens are 1-2 lifetime on the road in this series (0-1 at Houston, 1-1 at Tennessee) dating back to 1996. While this is only the seventh meeting between these clubs, the Ravens and Titans will be squaring off in their sixth different venue (Astrodome, Memorial Stadium, Liberty Bowl, Ravens Stadium, Vanderbilt Stadium and Adelphia Coliseum) in seven contests. Numbers: The Ravens have scored 181 points in nine wins, 154 points in 12 losses dating back to '98. They have committed 34 turnovers in their last 15 games dating back to '98. They have totaled three or more sacks in four straight games, and they have rushed for 120 or more yards in three straight games. RB Errict Rhett has rushed for 100 or more yards in 3 straight games. After giving up just five touchdown passes in their first seven games, the Titans have allowed 25 TD passes in their last 13 contests dating back to '98. RB Eddie George has scored at least one touchdown in five straight games dating back to '98. Things To Look For: Brian Billick and company may have finally found themselves a quarterback in brash QB Stoney Case, who has quickly made everyone forget Scott Mitchell. Despite last week's loss at San Francisco, the Titans look like a team that is going places, and their aggressive defense should be the difference. And this could be the week that Titans' RB Eddie George returns to his workhorse form. Etc.: Since entering the NFL in 1996, the Ravens are 7-19 vs. AFC Central rivals (1-1 in '99). The Titans are just 21-20 in their last 41 divisional games (1994-99), this after going 6-0 vs. AFC Central foes in '93. However, the Titans are 10-1 in their last 11 games vs. divisional competition dating back to '98 (3-0 in '99) and have won nine straight games vs. AFC Central rivals. The Titans are 10-1 vs. AFC Central rivals, 1-8 vs. the rest of the NFL dating back to '98. Since '95, the Titans are 9-9 at home vs. AFC Central foes and 11-6 on the road in divisional contests...Since 1995, they are 16-18 at home and 18-16 on the road. |
