Baxter Bits: Bills vs. Seahawks

By Russell S. Baxter
Special to ESPN.com

The Bills make their way to Seattle for the second time this year (the Bills posted a 24-10 victory this summer at the Kingdome) in the regular season for the first time since 1996.

The Seahawks have prevailed in four of the previous six encounters between these teams, the latest a 26-18 victory in '96 at Seattle in the last regular-season battle between the clubs.

The Bills are 1-4 lifetime at the Kingdome dating back to 1977.

Numbers: Including playoffs, the Bills have committed two or more turnovers in 29 of their last 47 games dating back to '96, turning over the football 100 times in those 47 contests. The Bills have committed four turnovers and allowed four sacks in four wins while committing six turnovers and allowing six sacks in two losses in '99.

In their last 21 games dating back to 1998, the Seahawks' defense/special teams have scored 16 touchdowns (10 interception returns, 2 fumble returns, 3 punt returns, 1 kickoff return). Since 1996, the Seahawks have given up 423 points in 26 wins (16.3 PPG), 710 points in 27 losses (26.3 PPG). Since 1996, they have allowed 140 or more yards rushing in 21-of-53 games, 180-plus yards rushing in eight of those contests. The Seahawks have been limited to fewer than 100 yards rushing in 6 straight games dating back to '98.

Things To Look For: The high-flying Bills came crashing back to earth last week as the Raiders' ground attack proved to be more potent than expected. But Bruce Smith and company don't figure to have the same problem with the 'Hawks, who have yet to get their running attack in gear. But Seattle's aggressive and quick defense should present elusive Bills' QB Doug Flutie with more than a few problems.

Etc.: Bills WR Andre Reed (86) needs two touchdown catches to tie Don Maynard (88) for 5th place on the NFL's all-time touchdown receptions list. Reed (87) needs one touchdown to tie Don Maynard (88) for 19th place on the NFL's all-time touchdowns scored list.

Seahawks RB Ricky Watters (8,216) needs 46 yards to move into 16th place on the NFL's all-time rushing list, passing Herschel Walker (8,225) and Earnest Byner (8,261).
