The Bears, playing their third consecutive road game, make their way to Lambeau Field looking to end their recent losing ways in this classic rivalry as these storied adversaries collide for the 158th time overall. While the Bears still own an 82-69-6 edge in the standings (including playoffs), Packers have now taken 10 straight (their longest winning streak ever in this series) and 12 of the last 13 meetings dating back to the clubs' second encounter in 1992--the Pack nearly doubling the Bears on the scoreboard (304-164) in those 10 consecutive victories. A year ago, Green Bay swept this series for the fifth consecutive season. In Week 15 at Lambeau Field (Week 15), Packers QB Brett Favre threw for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns (2 INTs) and RB Dorsey Levens added 105 yards rushing as Green Bay managed a 26-20 triumph. Two weeks later in the regular-season finale at Soldier Field (Week 17), neither the Packers (239) nor Bears (281) managed 300 yards of total offense and the team each committed three turnovers, but Packers PK Ryan Longwell's 18-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference in Green Bay's 16-13 win. The Bears have now dropped six straight at Lambeau Field dating back to 1993. Numbers: In 14 games vs. Chicago, Packers QB Brett Favre is 12-2 as a starter, throwing for 3,264 yards, 30 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. In his last 10 games vs. the Bears, Favre is 10-0 as a starter, throwing for 2,303 yards, 25 TD passes and just nine interceptions -- throwing for three or more scores in five of those contests--plus rushing for two touchdowns. In 1995, since-departed Bears QB Erik Kramer (9-7) threw a team-record 29 touchdown passes, just 10 interceptions and was sacked only 15 times -- the only quarterback in the NFL to take every snap from center that season. In their last 56 games (1996-98), eight Bears quarterbacks have seen action (Shane Matthews, Cade McNown and Jim Miller, as well as since-departed Dave Krieg, Steve Stenstrom, Rick Mirer, Moses Moreno and Kramer), amassing an 18-38 record, throwing 58 TD passes, 64 interceptions while being sacked 115 times. In his last four games, Bears WR Marcus Robinson has totaled 26 receptions for 467 yards (18.0 avg.) and four touchdowns, totaling 100 or more yards receiving in two of those contests. Including playoffs (87 games), the Bears have allowed 520 points in 37 wins (14.1 PPG), 1,464 points in 53 losses (27.6 PPG) the last 6 seasons (1994-99). The Bears have forced 19 turnovers in eight games in '99, this after totaling just 28 takeaways in 16 games in '98. They have totaled 23 sacks in eight games in '99, this after finishing tied for last in the NFL in sacks (28) in 16 games in '98. Their quarterbacks have thrown two or more interceptions in three straight games. They have committed two or more turnovers in three straight games. Since 1995 (81 games, including playoffs), Packers QB Brett Favre is 59-22, throwing for 145 touchdowns and just 46 interceptions in his 59 wins compared to 29 scores and 39 interceptions in 22 losses. Favre has thrown for 20,561 yards in those 81 games. The Packers have forced 13 turnovers in four wins but have totaled just five takeaways in three losses in '99. They have committed seven turnovers in four wins, 13 turnovers in three losses in '99. Things to look for: Dick Jauron's hard-working club was overwhelmed in Washington and now must deal with an angry bunch of Packers, who were embarrassed at Lambeau Field last Monday night by their former boss (Mike Holmgren). Chicago's defense is looking rather porous once again and could get a big dose of Packers' RB Dorsey Levens, one of the few bright spots in Green Bay's loss to the Seahawks. Etc.: Packers QB Brett Favre has started 116 consecutive game at quarterback (tying the NFL record for most consecutive starts by a quarterback since 1970, set by Philadelphia's Ron Jaworski from 1977-84) and with a start vs. the Bears can establish a new mark. The Bears have lost three straight games. Since 1992 (including playoffs), the Packers are 50-6 at Lambeau Field (including 5-0 in playoffs). Including playoffs, the Packers have won 47 of their last 50 at Lambeau Field. Including playoffs, they are 28-4 at home (24-3 at Lambeau Field, 4-1 at Milwaukee) vs. NFC Central rivals dating back to 1992. |
