Chiefs put defensive starters Allen Bailey, Justin March-Lillard on IR

NFL, Kansas City Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Chiefs on Tuesday placed starting defensive lineman Allen Bailey and starting inside linebacker Justin March-Lillard on the injured reserve list.

Bailey injured a shoulder in Sunday's win over the Oakland Raiders. It wasn't immediately clear whether March-Lillard suffered a hand injury against the Raiders or sometime afterward.

The Chiefs will replace Bailey with rookie Chris Jones, a second-round draft pick. March-Lillard was an injury replacement for the original starter at his spot, Josh Mauga. The candidates to replace him include the recently signed Sio Moore and Sam Barrington. Both have been starters for other NFL teams -- Barrington with the Green Bay Packers and Moore for the Raiders and Indianapolis Colts.

The Chiefs also released a backup defensive lineman, Nick Williams. Earlier Tuesday, they traded backup running back Knile Davis to the Green Bay Packers.

In addition, Kansas City signed veteran defensive lineman Kendall Reyes and promoted three players from its practice squad: defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches, linebacker Ramik Wilson and cornerback Terrance Mitchell.

Reyes was released by the Washington Redskins four games into the season after he had signed a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million in the offseason, with $1 million guaranteed.

He entered training camp as a starting right end, but he lost his job to Ziggy Hood.

Reyes, 27, missed two of the four games this season because of a groin injury.

A second-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in 2012, he recorded 5.5 sacks, 19 quarterback pressures and 15 hits as a rookie. He managed five sacks in 2013, but has only recorded three in his last 32 games.
