Cowboys WR Amari Cooper leaves vs. Jets with quad injury

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper was ruled out of Sunday's 24-22 loss to the New York Jets because of a quadriceps injury.

Cooper had a 3-yard catch on the Cowboys' first series.

After the game, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said he thought Cooper would be able to play next week against the Philadelphia Eagles.

"I don't know why not," Jones said. "I don't know that anything he did out there tonight impacted his quad ... He didn't feel like he could really be productive without getting a setback there tonight."

The Cowboys entered the game without starting tackles Tyron Smith and La'el Collins and receiver Randall Cobb because of ankle, knee and back injuries, respectively.

Cooper suffered the injury in the third quarter of last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers and said the quad was feeling better when speaking to reporters during the week. He said an ankle injury that had bothered him the past few weeks was more of an issue. He said a heel issue that bothered him during training camp is no longer a problem.

With Cooper on the sideline and without Cobb, the Cowboys played the rest of the game with Michael Gallup, Tavon Austin, Cedrick Wilson and Ventell Bryant at receiver, with Bryant mostly a special-teamer.

Cooper had 32 receptions for 512 yards and five touchdowns in the first five games. He had 11 catches for a career-high 226 yards and a touchdown against the Packers, becoming the first Cowboys receiver with multiple 200-yard receiving games.
