Source: Philadelphia Eagles expected to hire Los Angeles Chargers' Shane Steichen as OC

PHILADELPHIA -- The Eagles are expected to hire Shane Steichen as their offensive coordinator, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Steichen had been the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive coordinator since October 2019. He's leaving L.A. for Philadelphia to join new head coach Nick Sirianni, who worked with Steichen as a fellow assistant on the Chargers staff from 2014 to '17.

Steichen was the Chargers' quarterbacks coach from 2016 to '19 before replacing Ken Whisenhunt as offensive coordinator. He was part of the staff that helped QB Justin Herbert to a stellar rookie campaign this past season. Herbert completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,336 yards with 31 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.

Sirianni, like Steichen, has experience coaching quarterbacks, and he will be charged with helping get Carson Wentz back to form after a down 2020 season, should he remain on the roster.

Sirianni now has two of his primary assistant coaches in place, with Indianapolis Colts secondary coach Jonathan Gannon expected to be named defensive coordinator, a source confirmed. Sirianni worked opposite Gannon as the Colts offensive coordinator the last three seasons.

Indianapolis' defense finished 10th in points per game allowed (22.6) and tied for third in interceptions (15) and takeaways (25) in 2020.
