ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Pavol Demitra got lucky, and the St. Louis Blues got another victory Saturday night.

Late in the third period, Demitra took what appeared to be a harmless shot from the right faceoff circle at Devils goalie Chris Terreri. The puck hit off Terreri's arm and trickled into the net with 3:10 remaining. The goal, Demitra's fourth, snapped a 1-1 tie and helped the Blues to a 3-1 victory.

	St. Louis' Pierre Turgeon kept up his torrid scoring pace on Saturday, sending this shot past New Jersey goalie Chris Terreri.

"I got a good break there," Demitra said. "I was going for top shelf. His reaction was to put his arm up, and I hit it and it went in."

Jochen Hecht added an empty net goal with 55.9 seconds left as the Blues extended their winning streak to four games.

"It was a perfect week," said Blues coach Joel Quenneville. "We were real happy with the performance each and every game. We were really solid tonight."

Sergei Brylin scored the only goal for New Jersey, his third. The Devils, who lost 2-1 in overtime in Dallas on Friday night, lost consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 19-20.

Terreri kept the Devils in the game by making 27 saves. Afterward, he was still trying to figure out what happened on Demitra's goal.

"Scotty (Stevens) went down to try and block it and it went over him, hit me on the arm and trickled between my legs," Terreri said. "I really didn't know how it happened until I saw the replay."

Pierre Turgeon got the other St. Louis goal, extending his scoring streak to seven games. Derek King, acquired in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, picked up two assists in his first game with St. Louis.

King was glad to add to the winning in St. Louis.

"There's no point in coming here and going on a losing streak and not doing much," King said. "The biggest thing was to get a win."

The Blues started the season 2-3, but went 4-0 on their homestand. New Jersey, which set an NHL record last season with 28 road victories, is 1-2-1 in its first four road contests.

Roman Turek made 26 saves in goal for the Blues. Turek has won four straight games.

"I played against him in the Czech league," said New Jersey's Petr Sykora of Turek. "The Blues will like him even more when they get to know him."

Turgeon gave the Blues a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 8:03 into the game. Demitra got the puck down low on the right side and passed cross-ice to Turgeon, who put it in the open net.

New Jersey took advantage of a defensive lapse to tie the game in the second period. When Blues defensemen Chris Pronger and Marc Bergevin both chased the puck into the corner, Sykora centered it to Brylin in front. He pulled Turek out of position, then put it over the top of him.
