ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- You may be able to thwart Teemu Selanne point-blank once. But twice in a game?

Not likely, and Pittsburgh goalie Jean-Sebastian Aubin was the latest to find that out Wednesday night, when Selanne's goal 3:38 into overtime gave the Anaheim Mighty Ducks a 2-1 victory over the Penguins.

"I was just hoping I wouldn't miss twice in a row," said Selanne, who earlier in the game had missed a penalty shot. "To miss twice would've been too frustrating."

Selanne's winning move approximated penalty-shot conditions, as he bore down on Aubin uncontested and whipped his fifth goal of the season through the pipes.

"Oleg (Tverdovsky) gave me the puck in a great position. I was surprised I was so open," said Selanne, whose fifth goal of the season also was his third overtime goal for Anaheim, tying the club record.

"I thought the goalie would come out. When he didn't, I had a lot of time to do what I wanted."

Aubin wouldn't let the finish mar his brilliant effort, in which he stopped 35 of 37 shots and was under considerably more pressure than Anaheim goalie Dominic Roussel.

"On the goal, he had another breakaway, and you aren't going to stop him twice," Aubin said.

Roussel won for the second time in as many starts by turning away 20 of 21 shots. He had to face only three shots after the second period.

"Both goalies were the story of the game," said Anaheim coach Craig Hartsburg, after the Ducks (5-5-1) dropped the label of being the only team with a losing record in the Pacific Division.

"Dominic works hard in practice to always keep himself sharp. He played a heck of a game."

Aubin repeatedly came up with big stops as Anaheim outshot the Penguins 19-3 after the second period.

Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr snapped a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal at 11:45 of the second period. Jagr worked his way around Kevin Haller on a one-on-one to score his seventh goal of the season, remaining the NHL's only player to have scored in each game.

Marty McInnis tied it about three minutes later, sneaking a slow shot through Aubin's legs. He was assisted by Paul Kariya and Fredrik Olausson, who recorded his 400th career assist on the play.

Before the scores by Jagr and McInnis, both teams missed good opportunities in the middle of the second period.

Stephen Leach's close-range shot out of a goal-mouth scramble got by Roussel, but caromed off virtually the inside of the right post.

Seconds later, Selanne was on a breakaway when he was tripped from behind by Brad Werenka just shy of the Penguins' goal, setting up his third career penalty shot.

Selanne bore down on Aubin, and at the last instant veered sharply to his left while backhanding a shot easily smothered by Aubin. It was the first penalty shot taken by Selanne in more than four years, since also misfiring on an opportunity on Feb. 6, 1995.

Selanne is 1-for-3 in career penalty shots, connecting only on his first attempt, on March 9, 1993.

The teams combined for a total of only 12 shots in a sluggish scoreless first period, but Aubin did have to repel a brief Mighty Ducks flurry as time wound down.

After managing only four shots in the game's first 18½ minutes, Anaheim peppered Aubin with three shots within a 30-second stretch, including point-blank opportunities by Kariya and Selanne.
