PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Jaromir Jagr has already proven himself to be a premier goal scorer. On Friday night, he showed he's pretty good at predictions, too.

Jagr scored three goals in a 7:01 span of the first period as Pittsburgh routed the Ottawa Senators 5-0 on Friday night.

	Jaromir Jagr warned Ottawa goalie Patrick Lalime that he would beat him for at least two goals.

"It was that kind of night. Whatever I touched went in," Jagr said.

In addition to his first hat trick in nearly three years, Jagr assisted on Matthew Barnaby's goal for the Czech star's 900th NHL point. Jagr, who has 18 goals in 19 games, increased his league-leading point total to 38.

Jagr's goals came against former Penguins goalie Patrick Lalime.

"I was talking to him before the game," Jagr said. "I told him, 'I'm going to own you. I'm going to score two.' I had one extra."

Tom Barrasso, playing for the first time since Oct. 8, stopped 20 shots for his 35th career shutout. Barrasso missed 17 games after spraining a knee ligament in the second game of the season.

Jagr scored three consecutive goals against Lalime. Jiri Slegr's point shot was blocked at 10:58, but Jagr was able to grab the puck and beat Lalime on the stick side.

"Early in the game, Jaromir looked like he had good energy," Pittsburgh coach Kevin Constantine said. "When he has good energy, which he hasn't had lately because of his injury, he finds ways to create room. He did a great job of that tonight."

Jagr got his second goal at 13:26, during the Penguins' first power play. Jagr used German Titov as a screen to fire a shot through the small opening on Lalime's short side.

He completed his fifth career hat trick with a spectacular goal at 17:59. Senators defenseman Wade Redden fanned on a pass and Jagr got the puck. He carried it to the front of the net, shifted between his forehand and backhand, then calmly put the puck in after Lalime lunged to try to poke it off his stick.

Jagr's last three-goal game was against Boston on Nov. 30, 1996.

Jagr set up Barnaby during a 2-on-1 at 3:39 of the second period, prompting Ottawa to make a goalie change after Lalime stopped only five of the first nine shots.

Replacement Ron Tugnutt gave up a goal to Alexei Morozov at 11:21 of the second. It was Morozov's fourth goal and his first since he had a hat trick at New Jersey on Oct. 7.

"You've got to be physical against a team like Pittsburgh," Senators coach Jacques Martin said. "If you're not physical, you give them all kinds of time and space and they'll hurt you."

The Senators have lost four of their last five games, with the only victory coming Thursday night against the expansion Atlanta Thrashers.

"The mistakes we're making, little things are boiling over," Senators forward Kevin Dineen said. "You can go right through the team, myself included, and everyone has a spot where they're doing something that's costing us."

Pittsburgh is 14-1-3 against Ottawa at home.
