DENVER (AP) -- It didn't take Peter Forsberg long to remind everyone how good a player he is. Forsberg, sidelined since undergoing shoulder surgery on June 29, scored twice -- including on his first shift -- and added three assists in his first game of the season as the Colorado Avalanche ended a three-game home losing streak with a 7-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night. "It's always good to get a goal on your first shift, but this was a game it seemed everything was going in," Forsberg said. "I've been skating for a long time -- just didn't take any hits until tonight." Forsberg scored on his first shot on his first shift as he poked the puck between the skates of Flames goalie Fred Brathwaite 1:26 into the game. "Great superstars have a special way of doing things," Colorado coach Bob Hartley said. "Peter worked hard and was eager to get back into the game." Milan Hejduk had a goal and two assists and Shjon Podein and Chris Drury each added a goal and an assist for the Avalanche who lost 7-0 the night before in Phoenix. Joe Sakic missed the game with a rib cartilage injury. Marc Denis stopped 46 shots in ending Calgary's three-game winning streak. "Marc gave us timely saves while we were getting early goals," Hartley said. Cory Stillman scored with Calgary on a 5-on-3 advantage at 14:37 for the Flames' lone goal. The Flames outshot Colorado 47-22 and were 1-for-4 on the power play. "We didn't play a bad game," Calgary coach Brian Sutter said. "Every fish they threw out ended up in the net." Podein stole the puck deep inside the Calgary zone and scored unassisted 33 seconds later to make it 2-0. Drury scored a power-play at 4:48 of the first period to give Colorado a 3-0 lead. Grant Fuhr replaced Brathwaite, who had been 3-0 in his last three starts, after Drury's goal, but allowed Forsberg's second goal of the night off a rebound at 17:16. Alex Tanguay, Shean Donovan and Hejduk had goals in the second period to offset Stillman's goal as the Avalanche extended its lead to 7-1. "They were fired up after losing 7-0 last night," Brathwaite said.
