KANATA, Ontatio (AP) -- The Dallas Stars are starting to look like the Stanley Cup champions.

Manny Fernandez made 23 saves, and Jamie Langenbrunner had a goal and an assist as Stars beat the Ottawa Senators 3-1 on Saturday night to sweep a four-game trip.

"This was a real test for Manny, it was the first formidable opponent he's faced," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. "Now he's a confident guy and the team has confidence in him, too.

"I think Ottawa's defense backed off a bit. They are in the middle of a lot of injuries. We went through that."

Brenden Morrow and Mike Modano also scored for the Stars. Magnus Arvedson scored for Ottawa.

Ottawa has lost seven of its last 11 games and has been outscored 10-2 in the first periods of its last six games.

"I don't know just what it is," said Ottawa captain Shawn McEachern, who was stopped six times by Fernandez.

"We're not sticking to our system. We're just not playing the way we can right now. Even when our injured guys come back, we have to clean up our game."

The Senators came out hustling, following a defensive collapse in a 7-4 loss in New Jersey the previous night in which they allowed six consecutive goals.

Ottawa had the first six shots of the game. Fernandez made three strong saves in quick succession against Shawn McEachern, who had two goals and three assists in his previous five games.

Langenbrunner opened the scoring with 1:52 left in the period. Darryl Sydor set up Langenbrunner, who beat goalie Patrick Lalime for the Dallas forward's fifth goal of the season.

Fernandez robbed McEachern on a break with 4:30 left in a scoreless second period, getting a toe on the shot.

"I was a little too far out of my net," Fernandez said. "If he was a little more patient, I think he could have tucked it in. "Some nights you get lucky, some nights you don't."

Morrow swatted his second NHL goal past Lalime from close range off a rebound from Langenbrunner's shot from the top of the slot 5:48 into the third period.

Arvedson replied at 8:21, but Modano scored two minutes later off a pass from Mike Keane.
