EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- The checking line chipped in some offense for the Edmonton Oilers.

Todd Marchant played good defense with his linemates Monday night and scored two goals in Edmonton's 4-1 victory over the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.

"The key is not to let Paul Kariya, Teemu Selanne and Steve Rucchin score," Marchant said. "Kariya and Selanne are two of the most talented guys in the league, if not the most talented."

Marchant, Mike Grier and Ryan Smyth shut down Kariya's line as the Oilers came back from a 1-0 first-period deficit.

"The key is 20 guys playing together," Marchant said. "That was the case tonight. It's not just three forwards. It's the five guys on the ice, and (goaltender) Tommy (Salo) played unbelievably."

Bill Guerin and Pat Falloon also scored for the Oilers, who are 4-0-2 in their last six home games.

Smyth earned two assists with his customary crash-and-bang style. Falloon and Doug Weight also had two assists each.

"We want people to think this is a battle," Smyth said. "Everybody is contributing. It's good to see all 20 guys contributing. We have to keep it going."

Tony Hrkac scored in the first period for Anaheim, which had a five-game road-winning streak end. Anaheim outshot Edmonton 32-30, including 16-7 in the opening period.

"You saw the frustration in the first period," said Oilers coach Kevin Lowe. "That's the poorest we've handled the trap. We started taking over in the second period."

Marchant tied the game 1-1 by redirecting Smyth's shot from the right boards at 6:43 of the second period.

The Oilers then scored three times in a 3:33 span early in the third.

Guerin broke the tie at 3:07, scoring off the rebound of a shot by Weight.

Falloon made it 3-1 at 5:37 when he caused a turnover in the Ducks' zone and beat goalie Dominic Roussel, with Guerin acting as a screen.

Marchant's second of the game was on a backhander at 6:40.

"We didn't work in the second and third periods," said Anaheim coach Craig Hartsburg. "If you don't work in this league, you're not going to win. We gave the puck away in the second and third periods. We got away from our game."

Hrkac scored on a well-executed give-and-go with Mike Leclerc on a 2-on-1 break at 9:33 of the first.
