DETROIT (AP) -- Steve Passmore got all the action he wanted -- and then some. The Chicago goalie, starting for the first time since Dec. 10, made 46 saves -- 27 in the third period -- as the Blackhawks tied the Detroit Red Wings 4-4 on Friday night. "It was busy," Passmore said. "I haven't played in three weeks. I was getting out of game shape -- but I'm back in it now." Passmore nearly got the victory, but Brendan Shanahan scored with 32 seconds left as Detroit rebounded from a 4-1 deficit. "That's our fighting spirit," Shanahan said. "The guys really came out with a good effort in the third period. We had a lot of chances, but Passmore was making unbelievable saves. "He was all over the place. I had to take a couple of whacks to get the rebound in." Passmore was brilliant in the final period as Detroit applied constant pressure, outshooting the Blackhawks 28-4. Detroit had just finished a power play when Shanahan took two jabs at a rebound at the edge of the crease and finally beat Passmore. "After the second period we talked about coming out and playing aggressively and not changing our game," Chicago associate coach Lorne Molleken said. "But when you play a team like Detroit, you tend to get back on your heels a little bit. That's part of having lots of confidence and trust in everybody. I thought we battled. Anytime you come here and get a point, you're not excited but you're satisfied." Shanahan, who also had an assist, leads the Red Wings in scoring with 21 goals and 37 points in 36 games. Dean McAmmond had two first-period goals for the Blackhawks, 3-1-2 in their last six games. Doug Gilmour added a first-period goal, his 14th of the season, and Eric Daze also scored. Pat Verbeek, Chris Chelios and Tomas Holmstrom added goals for the Red Wings, 6-0-1 at home in December. Detroit pulled within a goal with 36 seconds left in the second period when Holmstrom took a pass from Sergei Fedorov and beat Passmore on the far side during a power play. Chicago led 3-1 after the first period. McAmmond scored his first of the game at 4:50 when his shot went in off goalie Ken Wregget's skate. Verbeek tied it at 10:31 off a rebound. McAmmond made it 2-1 with 3:06 left with a high wrist shot that got inside the right post. Gilmour made it 3-1 with 1:30 remaining on a slap shot that deflected off Detroit defenseman Larry Murphy's stick.
