The Thrashers took Dean in the 1999 expansion draft from the New Jersey Devils. He had one goal and 14 penalty minutes in 23 games with Atlanta.

The Stars also have signed free agent left wing Kirk Muller for the remainder of the 1999-2000 season, Stars' general manager Bob Gainey said.

Muller, 33, played for the Florida Panthers last season, recording four goals and 11 assists for 15 points with 49 penalty minutes in 82 games.

Muller has played in six All-Star games since beginning his NHL career in 1984.

Both Dean and Muller will join the Stars on Thursday when the team arrives in Edmonton for the start of a four-game road trip.
