| BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Alexei Zhitnik's tough season took a turn for the worse when the Buffalo Sabres defenseman sustained a possible broken finger Wednesday night.
Zhitnik was injured during his first shift in the third period of the Sabres' 2-1 overtime win over the Boston Bruins.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said the finger is either cracked or broken, but that Zhitnik would only miss one day.
Zhitnik has struggled this year. After recording 33 or more points in each of his last four seasons, he has only two goals and 12 points this campaign.
The Sabres can't afford to lose anyone else.
Captain Michael Peca might be out for the rest of the regular season with a dislocated shoulder, sustained in Sunday's 2-1 loss at Washington.
Forward Geoff Sanderson has missed three games with a knee sprain while Michal Grosek just returned after being sidelined four games with a groin strain.
