Yashin headed for Windy City?

Could Alexei Yashin be on the move?

One day after it was reported that the Ottawa Senators gave Yashin an ultimatum -- informing Yashin that if he doesn't start to honor the final year of his contract by Nov. 8, he'll be suspended for the season -- there are rumors Yashin might be traded to the Blackhawks.

"This seems believable to me," Yashin's agent Mark Gandler told the Chicago Sun-Times regarding the rumor, which was originally reported in the Ottawa Sun. "('Hawks GM Bob Murray) probably needs to do something to get the team in the right direction. It seems like they have the right personnel, but it's not working."

Holdout Alexei Yashin may not wear a Senators uniform again.

Because of injuries, the Senators need defensemen, and the 'Hawks have plenty. Boris Mironov continues to be a holdout for Chicago. Bryan McCabe or Anders Eriksson also could be appealing to Ottawa.

The Sun-Times stated Gandler hadn't heard anything from the Senators or 'Hawks and hasn't been aggressive about inquiries for fear of possible tampering charges if he spoke with the 'Hawks without permission.

"Our organization has denied any trades that have been rumored in the papers," Senators spokesman Steve Keogh responded to the rumors. "They've stood strong to a no-trade and no-negotiation viewpoint."

The Senators originally had set a Dec. 4 deadline for Yashin, who is working out in Switzerland while waiting for a new contract or trade.

It's believed the Senators also informed Yashin that if he doesn't return before the deadline, he'll owe the team another year on his contract and won't become a Group II restricted free agent next year.

Gandler said Yashin will continue to work out with the Kloten Flyers of the Swiss Elite League and isn't making any plans to come back to North America.

"I'll wait as long as it takes to get what I want," Yashin told the Ottawa Sun. "They can set a deadline if they want, I don't care about any deadline."
