Flames coach on Dennis Wideman's injury: 'Doesn't look good'

Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman, playing just his third game since returning from suspension, suffered an upper-body injury during Wednesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Wideman went down heavily in the first period after colliding with teammate Joe Colborne behind the Jets' net, seconds before Michael Frolik's goal in the Flames' 4-1 victory.

Calgary coach Bob Hartley said the team will know more about Wideman's status in the next day or two, but based on preliminary indications from the medical staff, "It doesn't look very good.''

An independent arbitrator lessened Wideman's suspension for hitting a linesman, which was levied by the league's hockey operations department, from 20 games to 10 games after a lengthy appeals process. The league said it "strenuously" disagreed with the decision.
