St George Illawarra's Rachael Pearson has nailed a golden-point field goal to secure a 19-18 win over Brisbane and book her team a spot in the NRLW finals.
Saturday's thriller at Melbourne's AAMI Park marked the first time a NRLW match had been decided in extra time and also the first time the Dragons had ever beaten the Broncos.
After leading 12-4 at halftime the Dragons looked headed for a straight-forward victory until Brisbane skipper Ali Brigginshaw crossed with just over a minute remaining, with Tarryn Aiken adding the extras to lock the match up.
Brigginshaw attempted to seal the win before the final whistle but her field goal missed the mark while Pearson made no mistake when she got her chance just over a minute into golden point.
"Today was the big stage and we needed Rat (Pearson) to step up and she nailed it," said St George Illawarra coach Jamie Soward.
"It showed a lot of character as things weren't perfect in that second half but we still had enough about it to be able to ice it."
The Red V looked on the back foot early in golden point when Tara McGrath-West lost the ball in a tackle, but a successful captain's challenge showed it had been stripped by Brisbane's Amber Hall.
The Dragons then worked the ball downfield with Pearson booting the match-winner from more than 20 metres out.
The halfback was also able to convert each of her team's three tries, scored by Kezie Apps, Quincy Dodd and Elsie Albert.
It was a tough pill to swallow for the Broncos, who outscored their opponents with four tries but Brianna Clark and then Aiken missed the early conversions.
Their 45th minute try by Shenae Ciesiolka was particularly impressive with the centre chipping ahead and regathering to beat the Dragons' defence.
They were down to 12 players midway through the second half with Chelsea Lenarduzzi sin-binned for a dangerous tackle.
"We were quite dominant throughout the game but the scoreboard doesn't reflect that," said Brisbane coach Kelvin Wright.
"We missed some opportunities throughout the game ... it's an unfortunate result."
The win moved St George Illawarra onto six points, level with the unbeaten Sydney Roosters and Newcastle, who square off on Sunday.
It leaves the Broncos with just one win from four games and in danger of missing the semi-finals with one round to play, with Gold Coast joining them after an earlier win at AAMI Park over Parramatta.
Brisbane take on the winless Eels in the final round while the Titans face the rampant Roosters at Central Coast Stadium.
Forty-year-old prop Steph Hancock went to the top of the NRLW's try-scoring charts as she helped keep the Titans' season alive.
The Titans raced out to an 18-4 lead at halftime before holding on after the break to claim their first win of the season.
They were forced to ice the match without halfback Lauren Brown, who was taken from the field with 12 minutes to play after being hit late by Kennedy Cherrington.
One of the greats of the women's game, veteran Hancock scored the Titans' first try when she claimed her fourth of the season from close distance.
The front-rower is now top of the charts for this season, while she remains equal-second on the all-time list with eight tries in her last eight matches.
