FORT WORTH, Texas -- Greg Biffle won his first NASCAR Truck Series start since 2004, taking the SpeedyCash.com 400 at Texas Motor Speedway on Friday night.
With 10 laps remaining, Biffle came out of a caution with the lead and held off the field for his first Truck series win since 2001. It was his first NASCAR start of any kind since 2016.
It was the first race of the Triple Truck Challenge, a three-race program that moves to Iowa Speedway on June 15 before wrapping up at Gateway Motorsports Park on June 22. The winner of any one, two or three of those races will receive a bonus of $50,000, $150,000 or $500,000, respectively.
Biffle was driving a Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He was grateful Busch gave him the opportunity to return to racing in a competitive truck.
"I am just excited to be here. I don't even know what to say," Biffle said. "I am so thankful for all the opportunities I have had to drive great trucks. This thing was really fast. It was hard to figure out how to pass here. It was my first time with this [aerodynamic] package, so it took me a little bit, but I got used to it in the end."
Matt Crafton came in second Friday, and 18-year-old rookie Tyler Ankrum finished a career-best third.
Johnny Sauter, the defending champion and a five-time winner at Texas, won Stage 1 but went into the wall at Turn 4 after contact with Austin Hill on Lap 56.
The wreck-filled race featured 13 cautions, the most in the 44-race history of the series at Texas.
"It was not easy. I had my work cut out for me," Biffle said. "At the beginning of the race, so much odd stuff happened. We ran five laps at a time and then the caution would come out. There was a lot of people wrecking in front of me and behind me. I was just trying to keep the truck clean and stay out of trouble."
