Black Ferns secure third Sevens title of the season in Japan

Rugby, World Rugby Sevens Series

Michaela Blyde scored with the last play of the game to give New Zealand's Black Ferns a 17-14 victory over Canada at the HSBC Kitakyushu Sevens in Japan.

Canada were unfortunate when Jennifer Kish lost control as she crossed the tryline early on, but hit the front through when Hannah Darling raced clear of Portia Woodman to touch down.

Niall Williams crossed before half-time to leave the sides level at the break, and Canada led going into the final moments after Kish and Woodman traded tries.

Tyla Nathan-Wong failed to convert Woodman's try but Blyde's last gasp effort secured a third title of the season for New Zealand.

Australia won the bronze medal after a 19-17 victory over Fiji, Russia defeated England 31-0 in the clash for fifth and Ireland took the Challenge Trophy with a 26-7 victory over Spain.
