Worcester, Bristol and Newcastle Falcons announce signings

Rugby

Worcester, Newcastle and Bristol have all announced signings as the Aviva Premiership enters the final round of games before the semifinals.

Newcastle Falcons signed Fiji lock Tevita Cavubati, who made 24 appearances for Worcester over the last two seasons and becomes their ninth new signing for next season.

He joins DTH van der Merwe [Scarlets], Josh Matavesi [Ospreys], Maxime Mermoz [Leicester Tigers], Ryan Burrows [Yorkshire Carnegie], Sam Stuart [Richmond], Joel Matavesi [Redruth], Sami Mavinga [Lyon] and Gary Graham [Jersey] at Kingston Park.

Bristol have announced that Samoan international Chris Vui will join in the summer. The 24-year-old, who represented New Zealand U20s in the 2013 IRB World Championships and the Blues in Super Rugby, can play at lock or the backrow.

The club, whom Pat Lam will coach next year, also confirmed the signings of former Gloucester pair Mat Protheroe, 20, and Dan Thomas, 23, as well as former Sale Sharks centre Sam Bedlow, 21.

Vui and Cavubati are one of 18 players to leave Worcester, with the likes of Cooper Vuna and Ryan Lamb, whose conversion back in 2015 sent them to the Premiership, departing while Phil Dowson joins the Northampton Saints coaching team.

Meanwhile former England U20s lock Huw Taylor became the fourth academy player to step up to the senior Worcester team for next season.
