Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson has withdrawn from the Wales coaching staff for their summer Tests against Tonga and Samoa.

He was named in December as one of Wales coach Robin McBryde's assistants for the Tests in June, being joined by Matt Sherratt and Stephen Jones.

But the Welsh Rugby Union says that Wilson has pulled out due to what it describes as "increasing commitments at the [Blues] region."

The Blues recently announced that their rugby general manager, Billy Millard, will leave the region at the end of the season, and Wilson has opted to focus his attention on them.

McBryde said: "It would have been great to have Danny on tour with us but we fully appreciate and understand his position.

"It was a tough decision for him to make but we would like to thank him for doing so at an early enough juncture for it not to hinder our preparation for the tour."

McBryde is due to name his squad for the tour games next Tuesday.

Wales play Tonga in Auckland on June 16, followed by Samoa in Apia eight days later.
